Colorado Crime Victim Compensation
State program that helps victims of violent crime in Colorado pay for out-of-pocket costs related to the crime, such as medical and dental care, mental health counseling, lost wages, funeral and burial costs, crime scene cleanup, and relocation or home security expenses. Claims are filed with the Crime Victim Compensation program in the judicial district where the crime occurred.

How to apply
- Report the crime to law enforcement and cooperate with the investigation.
- Identify the judicial district where the crime occurred. You can call the state Victim Compensation Administrator at 720-672-2166 for help finding the right district program.
- Get an application from the district's Crime Victim Compensation program, or download the application, and submit it online or on paper to that district.
- Submit your claim within the deadline (generally one year from the date of the crime; six months for property damage claims). Local boards may waive deadlines for good cause.
Deadline: Generally within one year from the date of the crime, and within six months for property damage claims. The local victim compensation board may waive the deadline for good cause or in the interest of justice. (Fixed deadline)
Amount: Up to $30,000 for crime-related out-of-pocket expenses not covered by insurance or other resources, plus limited emergency funds, per the program.
