DC Crime Victims Compensation Program (CVCP)
The District's crime victim compensation program reimburses eligible victims and their families for expenses related to a violent crime, including medical and dental costs, mental health counseling, lost wages, funeral and burial costs, and crime scene cleanup. The program is administered by the DC Superior Court rather than an executive agency.
Who it is for
Victims of violent crime in the District of Columbia, and certain family members and dependents, who have out-of-pocket expenses caused by the crime.

How to apply
- Gather documentation of the crime and of the expenses you are claiming.
- Complete the Crime Victims Compensation Program application.
- Submit the application and supporting documents in person or by mail to the Crime Victims Compensation Program at DC Superior Court, or by email to CVCPApplications@dcsc.gov.
- Consider asking a victim advocate for help by calling the DC Victim Hotline at 1-844-443-5732.
Deadline: The application generally must be filed within one year of the crime, or within one year of learning of the program. The crime generally must be reported to law enforcement within seven days, though sexual assault survivors may meet this requirement with a sexual assault exam, domestic violence survivors by seeking a civil protection order, and child cruelty cases by a neglect petition filed in DC Superior Court.
