Florida Bureau of Victim Compensation
Florida's crime victim compensation program helps ease the financial hardship suffered by victims of crime. It can reimburse out-of-pocket costs such as medical and dental bills, mental health counseling, lost wages, and funeral expenses related to a crime that caused injury, death, or threat of injury. Compensation is a payer of last resort after other sources such as insurance.
Who it is for
Victims of crime in Florida, and in some cases their family members or dependents, who suffered financial loss as a result of the crime and who reported and cooperated with law enforcement.

How to apply
- Report the crime to law enforcement, generally within 72 hours unless there is good cause for a later report.
- Complete the Bureau of Victim Compensation claim form, available in English and Spanish on the Attorney General's website.
- Attach acceptable proof of the crime and documentation of your expenses or losses.
- Submit the claim and documents online through the Attorney General's portal or by mail, or ask a local victim advocate or State Attorney's victim services office for help.
- Call the toll-free victim services line at 1-800-226-6667 with questions.
Deadline: Under Florida Statutes section 960.07, a claim arising from a crime occurring on or after October 1, 2019 generally must be filed within three years after the crime. The department may extend this deadline for good cause by up to five additional years. Victims who were minors at the time of the crime generally have three years from their 18th birthday.
