Louisiana Crime Victims Reparations Program
The Crime Victims Reparations (CVR) program helps innocent victims of violent crime and certain family members with crime-related costs they cannot otherwise pay. Covered expenses can include medical and dental care, mental health counseling, lost wages, funeral costs, child care, crime scene cleanup, relocation expenses, and forensic medical exams. Property damage and pain and suffering are not covered. Awards are generally capped at $15,000, with up to $25,000 for victims with a total permanent disability.
Who it is for
Innocent victims of violent crime in Louisiana, including survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking, and qualifying immediate family members; people whose own conduct contributed to the crime, offenders, accomplices, and incarcerated individuals are not eligible.

- Report the crime to a law enforcement agency and cooperate fully with the investigation and prosecution.
- Get an application from any Louisiana sheriff's office, where a victim reparations coordinator can help you fill it out for free.
- Or request an application directly from the Crime Victims Reparations Board by calling 225-342-1749 or toll-free 1-888-6-VICTIM.
- Submit the completed application with supporting documentation to the Crime Victims Reparations Board.
Deadline: The application must generally be filed within one year of the crime unless there is good cause for filing late. The crime should generally be reported to law enforcement promptly; check with the program about timing requirements and exceptions. (Fixed deadline)
