Minnesota Crime Victims Reimbursement Program (MN Crime Victims Reimbursement)
Minnesota's state crime victim compensation program, formerly called the Crime Victims Reparations Program. It helps victims of violent crime and their families with out-of-pocket costs such as medical and dental bills, mental health counseling, funeral expenses, lost wages, and cultural healing services. Property losses are not covered, and the program is a payer of last resort after insurance and other sources. You can apply online through the Victim Services Portal or with a paper form, and a local advocate or county victim or witness coordinator can help you file at no cost.
Who it is for
Victims of violent crime that occurred in Minnesota, including domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse, and surviving family members. The crime must be reported to police and you must cooperate with the investigation and prosecution.

How to apply
- Report the crime to law enforcement, which is required for eligibility.
- Gather documentation of your crime-related expenses, such as bills, receipts, and proof of lost wages.
- Complete the claim online through the Victim Services Portal at https://svcportal.dps.mn.gov/vsp/Account/Login, or use a paper claim form available in English and Spanish.
- Ask a local victim advocate or your county victim or witness coordinator to help you prepare and submit the claim at no cost.

Deadline: The crime generally must be reported to police within 30 days, and the claim generally must be filed within three years. Exceptions may apply for good cause and for child victims.
