North Carolina Crime Victim Compensation Program
The state Crime Victim Compensation Program reimburses innocent victims of violent crime in North Carolina for eligible out-of-pocket costs that are not covered by other sources. The program is a payer of last resort and can cover medical and dental care, mental health counseling, lost wages, and funeral and burial expenses.

- Gather records of your expenses, such as medical bills, counseling bills, proof of lost wages, or funeral costs.
- Apply online by creating an account through the Office of Victim Compensation Services portal, or request and mail a paper application.
- Call the program at 1-800-826-6200 if you need help applying or have questions about eligibility.
Deadline: In most cases you must apply within two years of the date the crime occurred, with limited exceptions (for example certain unreported sexual assaults of minors and later-discovered homicide victims). Confirm current deadlines with the program before relying on a date. (Fixed deadline)
