How to apply
- Report the crime to police, generally within nine months of the crime (with exceptions for good cause).
- Complete a VCCO claim application online through the Claims Processing System, or get a paper application from a law enforcement agency, medical institution, or a county prosecutor's victim-witness coordinator.
- Submit supporting documents such as a copy of the police report and related bills, receipts, and insurance statements.
- Call 973-648-2107 or 877-658-2221 for help completing the application.
Deadline: A claim must generally be filed within five years from the date of the personal injury or death (with possible extension for good cause). For victims under 18, the deadline extends to five years beyond their 18th birthday. (Fixed deadline)
Amount: Up to $25,000 maximum award, with additional amounts available for catastrophic injuries
