Ohio Victims of Crime Compensation Program (Crime Victim Compensation)
Ohio's crime victim compensation program reimburses innocent victims of violent crime and their families for out-of-pocket costs that are not paid by other sources, including medical and counseling expenses, lost wages, crime scene cleanup, replacement of items taken as evidence, funeral and burial costs, and financial support for dependents of a deceased victim. The program cannot pay for property losses or for pain and suffering, and total payments are limited to $50,000.

Victims of violent crime that occurred in Ohio, people who assume the financial responsibility on behalf of a victim, and dependents of a deceased victim, who have unreimbursed expenses.

- Get help from a victim advocate at a local victim service program, which can guide you through filing.
- Register and file online through the Crime Victim Compensation portal linked from the Attorney General's apply page.
- Or download the application and mail it to Crime Victim Services Section, 30 E. Broad Street, 26th Floor, Columbus, OH 43215, or email it as a PDF or Word document to CrimeVictimsCompensationApplications@OhioAGO.gov.

Deadline: A claim generally must be filed within three years of the date of the crime. If the victim was a minor, the claimant has until the victim's 24th birthday to file. (Fixed deadline)
Amount: Up to $50,000 in total payments per claim, with separate caps on some expense categories.
