Rhode Island Crime Victim Compensation Program
The state Crime Victim Compensation Program reimburses victims of violent crime for out-of-pocket costs not covered by other sources, including medical, dental, and counseling expenses, funeral and burial costs, lost earnings, loss of support for dependents of homicide victims, relocation, home modification, and crime scene cleanup. Property losses are not covered. The maximum benefit is up to $25,000.

How to apply
- Report the crime to police within 15 days of the alleged crime (extensions may apply for good cause).
- Apply online by creating an account at cvcapp.treasury.ri.gov, or print and submit a paper application.
- Mail or fax the paper application to the Crime Victim Compensation Program, Office of the Rhode Island General Treasurer, 50 Service Ave, Warwick, RI 02886, fax 401-462-7694.
- You do not need a lawyer to file. For help, call the program at 401-462-7655 or email crimevictims@treasury.ri.gov.
Deadline: File a police report within 15 days of the crime, and file the compensation claim no later than three years after the crime. If the victim was under age 18 at the time of the crime, the filing period is extended. (Fixed deadline)
Amount: Up to $25,000 per claim.
