East River Legal Services

Nonprofit civil legal aid organization that provides free legal assistance to low-income people in 33 counties in eastern South Dakota, including help with protection orders, divorce, and custody. East River Legal Services serves veterans, older adults age 60 and over, people with disabilities, and victims of violence, among others. Apply online through the SD Law Help website, which East River shares with Dakota Plains Legal Services. Eligibility generally requires household income within 125 percent of guidelines, with some exceptions.
