Texas Crime Victims' Compensation Program
The Crime Victims' Compensation (CVC) Program helps victims of violent crime and certain family members with crime-related costs the victim cannot otherwise pay. Covered expenses can include medical and hospital care, mental health and counseling care, lost wages, funeral costs, crime scene cleanup, and relocation expenses for certain victims. Total compensation is capped at $50,000.

Victims of violent crime in Texas, including survivors of family violence, sexual assault, and stalking, and qualifying family members; applicants must generally be at least 18, or a claimant acting on behalf of a minor, incapacitated, or deceased victim.

- Report the crime to law enforcement and cooperate with the investigation.
- Apply online through the Crime Victims' Compensation Portal, which is the fastest method and lets you upload documents and check status.
- Or apply by mail using the paper application, or call to request one.
- A trained victim advocate, family violence center, rape crisis center, or a Crime Victim Liaison at your police department can help you apply for free.
- Questions can be directed to the Crime Victim Services Division at 800-983-9933 (statewide) or 512-936-1200 (Austin).
Deadline: You must file the application within three years from the date of the crime. Certain exceptions may apply; check with the program. (Fixed deadline)
Amount: Up to a $50,000 total compensation cap, with sub-limits for specific expense types.
